Ask your MP to support our Early Day Motion to reduce fuel poverty

More than one in five private renters live in fuel poverty, the highest rate of any tenure, with nearly four million private renters regularly struggling to pay their energy bills.

To tackle this issue, the Government is requiring landlords to improve the energy efficiency of their properties by 2030, with the proposal impacting over half of private rented homes in England and Wales.

Government action on this issue is welcome. But Generation Rent are concerned that, where landlords receive Government funded grants to improve properties, tenants will not be sufficiently protected from rent hikes and eviction to enjoy the benefits of these improvements.

We have worked with Labour MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy to table an Early Day Motion outlining these concerns. Early Day Motions exist to allow MPs to put on record their opinion on a subject and canvass support for it from fellow MPs.

Please ask your MP to support the motion to show politicians from across the house are united on this issue. Enter your postcode to get started.
