Ask your MP to strengthen the Renters Rights Bill

The committee has finished going through the Renters' Rights Bill and we're expecting the next debate in a few weeks.

Though this version of the Bill promises to end Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions and strengthen regulations on the quality of our homes, we still need to do more.

Rents are spiralling. The proposed blanket ban on landlords pitting tenant against tenant in bidding wars cannot come soon enough, but if landlords are allowed to continue with unchecked and unaffordable rent rises, thousands more of us will still be forced into poverty and on to the streets.

Tenants are still vulnerable to homelessness if our landlord wants to sell or move in, while the new landlord database and higher standards won’t make a difference if it is easy for the worst landlords to avoid registering or making improvements.

In its current form, the Bill needs to go further to protect the 12 million private renters in England.

MPs can try to make the Bill better by putting down amendments, but we need to make sure that enough MPs support this effort. This way, we can make renting better for as many tenants as possible.

Please ask your MP to support these amendments. Enter your postcode to get started.
