"Affordable" should mean Affordable

"Affordable" is one of the most abused words in the English language. When the government talks about affordable homes it means rents or prices that are 80% of the market rate. It has nothing to do with someone's ability to pay.

Housing should only be considered affordable if costs no more than 30% of your income.

At the moment the Mayor of London is getting away with building expensive housing and calling it affordable.

Please email the mayoral candidates and ask them to use a more realistic definition of affordable in their housebuilding plans. Please feel free to personalise your email.
