End unfair evictions
As a private renter you never really know where you will call home in a year's time. Your landlord could raise the rent to more than you can afford, simply not renew your tenancy without giving a reason, or sell it, which is happening en masse in Walthamstow. One in 4 of us can expect to lose our home through no fault of our own. We need better protection.
If we can get all mayoral candidates to pledge to help renters then change is much more likely - whoever is elected. Please ask the mayoral candidates to support Generation Rent's proposal to limit rent increases to inflation and give tenants the right to compensation if their landlord kicks them out through no fault of their own. This will give renters much greater security in their homes, and the knowledge that if they are forced to move someone else will pay for it.
We have drafted a template but candidates will find it harder to ignore real life experiences so feel free to add your own. Many thanks!
Generation Rent’s mission is that every home in the private rented sector is safe, secure and affordable.
