Ask your MP to protect student renters

An amendment to the Renters' Rights Bill from the House of Lords will make it possible for landlord to evict students in one- or two-bedroom homes without reason.

This blatantly unfair eviction ground already applies to students living in larger shared homes, and must not be allowed to force even more students out of their homes.

There are over 64,000 students living on their own in privately rented homes in England, while around 53,000 live with one other student. This amendment would put an even wider range of people at risk of eviction, with many of these students being postgraduates and those aged 25 and over.

Many students don't want to have to move home in the middle of their degree. But for those who are working, who are estranged from their family, or who want to stay in their home once their course has finished, being evicted could turn their life upside-down.

Now that the Bill is back in the House of Commons, there is a chance to make sure this amendment doesn't pass.
